When ŠKODA launched its Octavia Scout 4x4 in Australia in October 2008 a lot of interested buyers travelled to the showrooms of the Czech importer to look it over, but to leave disappointed when they found the Scout was only offered with a manual gearbox.

The shape works - similar concept to the Subaru Outback or Volvo XC70 – it's based on an existing wagon that's then raised, given extra body cladding and some 4x4 credentials (rather than a unique SUV body such as Forester or XC60).
